Q.
How can I become a student of this examination?
A
The minimum qualification to enroll into this examination is SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) with the below passes:
Rule 32 Eligibiity (VAEP Rules, 1986)
(1) Candidates for these examinations shall not be less than Seventeen (17) years of age on the 1st January of the year of the examination.
(2)(b) Candidates for the estate agent's examination must show proof to the satisfaction of the Board that they possess not less than a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia or its equivalent with not less than five (5) Subject Passes of which at least three (3) shall be credit level passes and at least one (1) of the credit level passes shall be in Mathematics or Science or Accounts or Commerce.
Below are links written about the profession in more detail.
(4) Candidates for the estate agent's examination must satisfy the Board that-
(a) they have been working full-time in an office a registered estate agent assisting in estate agency work for at least six months before the date of the application to sit for the examination, or
(b) they are engaged in full-time study in a technical college, an institution or an University approved by the Board.
*With regards to (4), I personally was working full-time in pharmaceutical industry and not in the real estate agency office. Hence, I believe in the spirit of encouraging more candidates to take up the examination, this rule (4) is not necessarily an obstacle to aspiring candidates.
Despite, probationary period must be a FULL-TIME engagement. Probationary period of two (2) years only starts after PEA number is approved by the Board. Hence, even a person has been a REN for many years, the training period of a PEA only starts after his/her PEA registration is confirmed by the Board.
